NON-RESIDENT LICENSING
Eligibility
- Once you have an active resident insurance license, you may apply for non-resident licenses for other states.
- You are only eligible for the same Lines of Authority you hold in your resident state. If you have both Life and Health in your resident state, then you can get both Life and Health in a non-resident state.
- Non-resident licenses are reciprocal in most cases meaning you do not need to pass another exam to get them. Most states only require you to apply and pay the fee to obtain a non-resident license. A few states have additional requirements:
- Alabama: Citizenship Documentation
- California: Fingerprinting is required for non-residents from certain states.
- Florida: Fingerprinting is required for all non-residents.
- Georgia: Citizenship Affidavit
Application
- Go to NIPR to begin the application.
- Click Non-Resident License then Go to the Online Application.
- Click Individual and choose SSN as your search type. Enter your last name (legal last name, as it will appear on your license) and your SSN. Accept the NIPR Use Agreement and click the Next button.
- Enter your birthdate and click the Next button.
- Click Start.
- Select Producer Licensing > Initial > Non-Resident then click the Next button.
- Select the state(s) you’re applying for and click the Next button (you can apply for multiple states on one application).
- This next section is a little different for each state. If you’re unsure what option to choose, reach out to your upline for help.
- Make sure you’re applying for the same lines of authority on your resident license (life and health/accident/sickness/disability).
- Follow the prompts to complete your application.
- SKIP any fields that are not required.
- When prompted to enter business contact info – this still means your contact info. Do not include any contact information for Symmetry or an agency you do not own on your license application. If you do not have separate business contact info, use your regular info.
- Business Entity and Affiliations information – unless you are currently the principal agent of a business entity and are planning to apply for that entity to hold an insurance license, do not include any business entity info on this application. Those fields/sections are not required so you can skip them. Do NOT list Symmetry or any agency you do not own as an affiliated agency.
- Continue to follow the prompts through the end of the application and pay your application fee.
Contracts
- Let your insurance carriers know when you’ve obtained a new license so they can appoint you in that state.
